Sinus Infection - Balloon Sinuplasty - Resolves Problems Within the Sinuses

Sinusitis can result from a blockage of the nasal passages caused by allergies, sinus polyps, tumors or a deviated septum. A fungal infection could even be the cause. The signs of a sinus infection signs, antibiotics, and alternative medicine and can hinder function. Sufferers in many cases are worn out, have trouble sleeping and a lowered sense of taste and smell. Nose attacks may also spread to the ears and build clog there. Once sinusitis has become calm, proper treatment is necessary to not only heal the affected areas, but also to be able to keep it from spreading more. Doctors treat chronic sinusitis in a variety of ways. Most of sinusitis cases can be managed with drugs alone. When other conventional medical treatments fails, surgery for instance balloon sinuplasty may be needed to treat chronic sinusitis. Such types of minimally invasive surgery could increase the size of the opening of the sinuses, remove any problematic polyps and correct anatomic deformities that may be contributing to the sinusitis.

Your sinuses are in good express mucus will drain as well as air will movement readily by means of your nasal passages. When mucus and air are blocked the sinuses grow to be inflamed and microorganisms, trojans as well as fungus may raise and cause infection. Go up sinuplasty opens the drainage pathways of the sinuses and helps to restore their normal function. It runs on the catheter to be able to put a tiny balloon inflated just enough to open the passageslike the way that cardiologists use a catheter and stent to open blocked blood vessels. Instead of removing bone, this procedure dilates sinus opportunities simply by pushing aside bones which consist of the nose drainage to generate larger openings. Truly, the balloon results in less tissue damage, shorter operative occasions and much more individual satisfaction. It's a non-invasive kind of surgery typically done in an outpatient setting. No incisions are made so there is no visible scarring.

Balloon Sinuplasty May Bring Huge Relief to be Able to Chronic Sinusitis Patients

If you find yourself continually missing your work or perhaps social engagements just because of chronic sinusitis (after a hostile treatment with medications), sinuplasty surgery is likely to be the most appropriate alternative. Experienced ENT specialists or balloon sinuplasty doctors will help you to see whether you are a right candidate for sinus surgery.

Sinus clog is eliminated since the fine mist introduced by the aerosol device gets into the sinuses and gets rid of the nasal infection immediately. Aerosolized therapy is doctor-prescribed, with the help and preparation of the sinus pharmacy. Side effects are low as a result of topical treatment that reduces the chances of keeping the medication assimilated by the blood.

Sinus Treatment - Sinusitis Treatment - Help is on the Way

Mayo Clinic researchers have made great strides in recent years regarding sinusitis treatment and have come up with a new therapy for chronic sufferers called topical antifungal therapy. This particular sinusitis treatment is still new and is not widely practiced. This author, a sinusitis sufferer of long standing with two painful operations under his belt, has been in contact with one of the Mayo Clinic research physicians. I was pointed to several papers and articles describing the research completed thus far, the theory behind the research, and the resulting therapy.

Antifungals such as Amphotericin B and Itraconazole are used in this sinusitis treatment regimen. These have already been approved by the FDA for other uses, and they can be mixed by a compounding pharmacy such as Anazao to make the topical solution needed for this new therapy. Amphotericin B, for example, was only available in my local pharmacy as an injection medication. The pharmacist was not aware that it is sometimes reformulated as a topical spray for sinusitis treatment. Patients spray the antifungal into their nostrils daily. About 75% of the chronic sinus sufferers in one of the Mayo Clinic studies saw significant improvement in their conditions following this regimen.

Topical Antifungal Therapy is a New Form of Sinusitis Treatment

It takes time for a new approach to become accepted in the medical community at large. I asked the Mayo research physician if he knew of a colleague in the Denver area, where I reside, who was utilizing this approach. He responded that he didn't know anyone there, but gave me two names of physicians in Texas, which I also asked about. So it is obvious that this approach to sinusitis treatment is not yet mainstream therapy, but it does have momentum. For people who have received sinusitis treatment which has not improved their suffering, more details regarding this and other sinus related subjects can be found at the web site in the resource box for this article. Writing is something that has to be done when one is in the mood to write. So when we got in the mood to write about Spray Sinusitis, nothing could stop us from writing!

Also contacted Accentia, the biopharmaceutical company who has obtained a license from the Mayo Foundation to produce and market medications based on the Mayo Clinic research. They informed me that they plan to market a product based on Amphotericin B, which will have the brand name SinuNase. They will start clinical trials soon, and I submitted my name as a possible participant. Apparently I would be a good candidate since I've had sinus surgeries that didn't cure my problems. It is rather inviting to go on writing on Chronic Sinus. however as there is a limitation to the number of words to be written, we have confined ourselves to this. However, do enjoy yourself reading it.

Simple and general terms, the Mayo Clinic research showed that some people (i.e., chronic sinusitis sufferers), have a harmful immune reaction to fungi that others do not experience. The research demonstrated that fungi are present in the air and show up in the nasal mucus of just about everyone. In the noses of chronic sinus sufferers, it showed that certain types of white blood cells will attack the fungi that are present. In doing so these cells create a compound that damages nasal membranes. Once damaged, bacteria can easily enter and cause pain, inflammation and infection. Conventional sinusitis treatment often includes antibiotics to attack the bacteria. This new sinusitis treatment aims to attack the fungi instead, thus avoiding the nasal membrane damage in the first place. One drawback is that it is not easy to determine if a patient is someone whose white blood cells attack fungi in the nose or not. It is also not known why this white blood cell reaction occurs in some people and not in others.

The First of My Two Sinus Operations Was to Correct a Deviated Septum

The operation, or more precisely, the post-operative recovery period, was very painful. I had splints in my nose to help support it since the septum had been rebuilt, and my nose was 'packed'. This means that a large amount of gauze was pressed into the nose to stop bleeding.

I'm sure my first and second surgeons meant well and thought they were helping me by recommending surgery for a deviated septum and for other reasons. The fact is, however, that the operations simply didn't produce good results, as I kept coming down with sinus infections not long after both of them. What has helped me since then is pulsating sinus irrigation, and I have addressed that in other articles. Using great confidence in ourselves, we endeavored to write such a long article on Sinus Problems. Such is the amount of matter found on Sinus Problems. :D.

Therein Lies the Problem

There are many reasons for the onset of sinus infections. There could be allergies, yeast infections causing candida, blockage by polyps, rhinitis or chronic rhinitis, etc. Ongoing research is looking at other causes as well, and new treatments such as antifungal therapy are being developed, along with new medications to implement them. There are also new and less invasive operations being done, like sinuplasty.

Some People are Lucky and Respond Well to Standard Treatments and Medication

Many people, myself included, have tried all the standard treatments, medications and even operations, and still keep coming down with sinus infections. Something else is obviously in the mix. The sources used for the information for this article on Sinus Treatment are all dependable ones. This is so that there be no confusion in the authenticity of the article.

Normally I would be willing to suffer for a while in order to 'fix' whatever problem was being addressed once and for all. The problem with operations for a deviated septum is that oftentimes it simply does not work for very long and people continue to come down with sinus infections after about six months or so. That is exactly what happened to me, and then I also had a second sinus operation, by a different surgeon, about 18 months after the first. He told me my septum had been straightened out, so there must have been other things causing my sinusitis. In other words, all the pain I went through the first time was for nothing. ;)

  • Since no air can pass through the nostrils for the week or so that the packing is in place, things like eating became a challenge.
  • You cannot eat and breathe at the same time, so small bites and lots of soups and other liquids are favored.
  • The splints were awful.
  • When I tried to lie down normally in bed, the pressure on either side was very painful, and I couldn't sleep normally.
  • My doctor suggested I get a Lazy Boy chair which reclined somewhat and sleep on that.
  • In fact I did this, but sleep was difficult, and it was a long week.

Is Said that 80% of the Population Has a Deviated Septum to Some Degree

There are about 300,000 sinus operations performed each year in the U.S., and a good number of these are to fix a deviated septum. I'm sure that some of these have cured sinusitis in a number of people, but personally I've never met anyone who has said the operation 'worked' for them. Another downside to this operation is that surgeons will sometimes also cut out some of the turbinates in the nose to help clear the nasal cavities and ostensibly make drainage easier. In the past it was felt that removing some or most of the turbinates had no harmful effects. Surgeons and especially patients who have had this done are now finding out that this can be a catastrophic after about 5 years or so. The condition is now referred to as ENS, or Empty Nose Syndrome. This condition is irreversible, since the turbinate and cilia-bearing tissue which has been cut away cannot grow back or be transplanted from elsewhere in the body. If your mucosal/cilia system ceases to function, you are in big trouble. In extreme cases some patients with ENS were so miserable and depressed with their lives that they committed suicide!! It was with great relief we ended writing on Sinus Problems. There was just too much information to write, that we were starting to lose hopes on it's completion!

Dizziness can be Another Symptom of Having a Sinusitis Infection

Dizziness is defined as a state of physical unsteadiness, lightheadedness and related with imbalance. This sensational instability has a connection with numerous conditions which range from harmless to near-death instances. In its state, it's really difficult to walk around. Also with a sinus infection, this can become troublesome because dizziness itself is already difficult to manage.

Also, with good air, you can lessen getting an infection in the first place; you can invest on a good air conditioning system. Air conditioners can remove the allergens within the air, they can use a dry forced air conditioning system to provide a good temperature for your preference, and the electrostatic filters are the ones that can remove the allergens. You can get more information to lessen and taking precautionary measures especially if you have a weak immune system.

The best way to treat them is by prevention, there are things you can get ahead on a full onset of sinus infection. As bacteria is the main cause of this complication, taking in daily doses of diet supplements can harden your immune system, in turn lessens the occurrence of an inflammation on your sinuses. But on the severity of attacks, you can lessen them with good medication and equipment; this might prevent the setting of bacterial infections. We tried to create as much matter for your understanding when writing on Acute Sinusitis. We do hope that the matter provided here is sufficient to you.

On a usual sinusitis infection, you can feel dizzy along with other symptoms. You can have a runny nose, pain, fatigue, headache; these are the common symptoms you experience after waking up in the morning. You can always take the proper medications for the relief of this kind of symptom. :o.

With Discomfort on the Matter, this can Surely Lessen Your Productivity

With being dizzy, you cannot even do anything but let yourself rest. With proper knowledge on the matter, you can save time and efforts treating the symptom. There are numerous ways to treat sinus infection dizziness, knowing how they can be triggered is always better than having it in the first place. Here are some of the symptoms of a sinus infection that can lead to dizziness.

A Sinusitis Infection can Also Cause Pain in the Forehead

An inflammation of your maxillary sinus also causes pain on your jaw and teeth. The feeling of being dizzy can be due to the inflammation of the tissues around your eyelids, there is usually pain within this area; this can also cause inflammation on the areas of your nose. Developing a gradual interest in Maxillary Sinus was the basis for writing this article. On reading this, you will gradually get interested in Maxillary Sinus.

Sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, is an infection of the paranasal sinuses. This could be a result of an infection, bacteria, fungus, a virus, an allergy or an autoimmune issue. There are four classifications of sinusitis. They are maxillary sinusitis, frontal sinusitis, ethmoid sinusitis and sphenoid sinusitis. Maxillary sinusitis is pain in the area of the cheek or mouth. This most commonly coincides with a toothache or headache. Frontal sinusitis causes pain in the frontal cavity above and behind the eyes. Ethmoid sinusitis causes pain either behind and/or between the eyes and sphenoid sinusitis causes pain behind the eyes but more so in the vertex of the head.

Sinus infections are difficult to distinguish between because the various stages have relatively the same symptoms. An infection can last less than four weeks (acute), four to twelve weeks (subacute), or for 12 weeks or longer (chronic). All types of sinus infections can be diagnosed by a doctor clinically and can be treated by a doctor. One of the most common treatments is rest and relaxation. Doctors recommend a decongestant and painkiller to relieve a patient of their symptoms and if that doesn't work the doctor will then prescribe an antibiotic called Amoxicillin. Getting information on specific topics can be quite irritating for some. This is the reason this article was written with as much matter pertaining to Sinus Infection as possible. This is the way we aim to help others in learning about Sinus Infection. :)

One thing that does irritate the senses when using this procedure is plain, cold water. Many doctors recommend using a type of warm salt water and a buffering agent such as sodium bicarbonate. This will help the mucus membrane react in a more positive way. For some of the more chronic sufferers of sinusitis, nasal or sinus surgery might be the best and only option to relieve symptoms. One of the more popular and recent surgeries has been balloon sinuplasty. This is where balloons are utilized to widen the openings of the sinuses. Surgery should only be considered for patients that do not experience relief from everyday medications such as nasal decongestant sprays, antibiotics or any over the counter medicines. Now that we think about it, Sinus are not actually that difficult a topic to write about. Just looking at the word, ideas form in people's minds about the meaning and usage of Sinus.

An acute sinusitis attack will cause a discharge of green fluids without blood and is usually caused by a toothache or sever headache. Sometimes a sinus infection can be a one and done thing. Not all people who suffer from sinus infections suffer from them on a weekly or even yearly basis. Most sufferers of sinus infections have them occur once in a blue moon but when they do suffer from them the pain is almost unbearable because they aren't accustomed to it. It was really tough getting information about anything previously. Now with the advent of the Internet, anyone can access any information at any time of the day.

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the lining of the sinus cavities in the skull. Sinus cavities produce mucous which lines the nasal cavity. They reduce the weight of the skull as these cavities are air filled. The voice resonates inside the sinus cavities. A healthy sinus cavity normally contains air whereas a sinus cavity in case of sinusitis becomes filled with mucous. A mucous filled sinus cavity can create symptoms like headache. The best cure for sinus headache is curing the disease itself.

Though people believe in home remedies as a cure for sinus headache, it is recommended that a medical practitioner may be consulted as early as possible.

Sinus Headache May be Confused With Migraine At Times

X-rays, CT scans and MRI are used to distinguish between the two. Sinus headaches are also accompanied by other symptoms of sinus like facial pain, jaw pain, toothache, swelling on the face and nasal discharge. Sinus patients also complain of a cough which increases in the morning and at night. Another temporary cure for sinus headache is having a hot water shower. Hot water decongests the sinuses to some extent giving temporary relief. Eating a pepper or a jalape'o also helps in decongesting the sinuses. Sleeping in a dark room for some time also helps at times.

Most Cases of Sinus can be Cured by Taking a Course of Antibiotics

Anti inflammatory drugs and anti allergic drugs are also prescribed at times. Nasal sprays and nasal irrigation are other techniques used to cure sinusitis. Surgery may be considered in acute cases of sinusitis. Inhaling steam or taking a cold compress over the head may be a temporary cure for sinus headache. If inhaling steam decongests the sinus completely, it can prove to be helpful in completely curing sinusitis.

Natural Ways on How to Treat Sinus Infection is by Using the Neti Pot

The Neti pot is used to pour a mixture of salt solution in warm water in one nostril and expelled through the other. The water rinses excess mucus from the sinus cavities and cleans them from infections. A sinus buster is used for relief from headache due to sinus infection.

Some Home Remedies

How to treat sinus infection Avoiding exposure to cold is suggested as it can aggravate sinusitis. Staying in environments devoid of pollutants and allergens can help in avoiding the infection getting worse. Drinking plenty of water is found to provide some relief. Taking a warm steam inhalation from a bowl of hot water can help. Mentholated preparation can be added to aid the opening of the clogged passage ways. Taking Vitamin C daily can also help. Saline nasal sprays can dilute the mucus and improve its flow and provide relief from clogged sinuses. These are common ways suggested on how to treat sinus infection. People have an inclination of bragging on the knowledge they have on any particular project. However, we don't want to brag on what we know on Sinus Buster, so long as it proves useful to you, we are happy.

Chronic Sinusitis - Curing the Symptoms of a Sinusitis Infection

Sinusitis infections are a common condition which many people suffer from each year. There are many factors which contribute to a sinusitis infection. Frequently, the sinusitis will begin because of a cold or allergy though it can also develop because of fungal infections, reflux disease, and many other diseases such as cystic fibrosis. The sinusitis itself begins when the sinus cavity lining becomes swollen, usually because of a cold or allergy. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities and attack the swollen lining, greater inflammation occurs which causes the cilia, which usually flushes out mucus and bacteria that pollute the sinus cavities, to not function properly and therefore the bacteria and mucus become trapped which then causes the sinusitis infection.

There are many types of symptoms that may be experienced with a sinusitis infection. Some of the most common symptoms which may appear as cold like symptoms are cough, congestion, postnasal drip, green nasal discharge, and facial pain and pressure. A person may also experience a headache or even tooth pain due to the pressure of the inflammation pushing on the nerves in face. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is then considered chronic sinusitis. With chronic sinusitis a person may also experience loss of sense of taste and smell and they also may become fatigued. Depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies, there may also be other symptoms experienced. Using the intuition I had on Sinuses, I thought that writing this article would indeed be worth the trouble. Most of the relevant information on Sinuses has been included here.

Another option in treating a sinusitis infection when all other treatments have failed is sinus surgery. Sinus surgery is painful, can leave scar tissue which can lead to future problems, and usually only offers temporary relief since only a portion of the inflammation and infection is removed and so the sinusitis infection often returns. An idle brain, is a devil's workshop they say. Using this ideology in mind, we ventured to write on Sinus, so that something productive would be achieved of our minds. :D.

There are several treatments which are used to treat a sinusitis infection. One common treatment which is used is over the counter or prescribed nasal sprays. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution or medication up into the sinuses. The nasal sprays however have a large particle size that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to where the infection lies. The nasal sprays may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses. Oral antibiotics are also a commonly prescribed medication by physicians. Oral antibiotics work on many types of infections by flowing through the blood stream to the area of infection. The sinus cavities only contain a small amount of blood vessels therefore it is difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic to arrive at the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics also can cause problems throughout the rest of the body, such as abdominal pain. Another newer form of treatment is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications work great because they are directly distributed into the sinus cavities so that they can cure the problem where it started. Writing something about Sinusitis Infection seemed to be something illogical in the beginning. However, with the progress of matter, it seemed logical. Matter just started pouring in, to give you this finished product.

Home Remedies are Also Frequently Used

Some people may breathe in hot steam. The steam is meant to help moisturize the sinuses and help thin the mucus. Though the steam may offer temporary relief and help some symptoms, in there is in fact an infection, only antibiotics may help cure it. Irrigation is also another common home remedy. Irrigation is used by inserting saline solution in to the sinus cavities to also help moisten them. Just like steam, this may only offer temporary relief and medication will need to be used.

Just like in any medical condition, different treatments work for different people. In sinusitis it all depends on what stage the sinusitis is in along with other factors. What is important is finding the treatment form that works best for you and treating the sinusitis before it gets to a chronic stage that may create more problems and involve more extreme treatment options. We were a bit tentative when embarking on this project on Sinus Infection. However, using the grit and determination we have, we have produced some fine reading material on Sinus Infection.

Cold, allergies, coughing, and sneezing can all influence in sinusitis. However, the fact that these can be an influence in ear infection is not commonly known. The reason that sinusitis and ear infection are related is that the sinuses and the ear are connected by a tube in the inner ear called the Eustachian tube.

After swimming, bathing, playing in the snow, or other water activities, water collects in the ears, and if it is not properly cleaned out, it drains into the Eustachian tube. Because the Eustachian tube is only slightly slanted, even less in children, the liquid often settles in the Eustachian tube, inviting ear infection. Similar to sinusitis, ear infection can inflame and swell, blocking further drainage. Ear infection can cause dizziness, headaches, ear aches, and other ailments.

Before explaining further how sinusitis and ear infection are connected, I will explain them one at a time, beginning with sinusitis, then moving on to ear infection. When one is suffering from the cold, flu, or allergies, there tends to be stuffiness in the sinuses. The stuffiness is caused by the sinuses. They produce mucous in an effort to clean the sinus tissue from the dirt and bacteria breathed in. Whenever the sinuses sense impurities or bacteria, they produce more mucous. Sometimes this is counterproductive, because the bacteria may settle in the sinus tissue and cause inflammation or sinusitis. The mucous then gets blocked in by the inflammation, and instead of cleaning out the bacteria, it invites bacteria to grow. As we got to writing on Inflammation Sinusitis, we found that the time we were given to write was inadequate to write all that there is to write about Inflammation Sinusitis! So vast are its resources.

Consider what happens when one having sinusitis blows his or her nose, coughs, or sneezes. Where does the air go? True, much of the air goes through the mouth and nose, but much of the air pressure goes out toward the ears. That means that infection is also pushed out toward the ears, making sinusitis an indirect cause of ear infection.

Both sinusitis and ear infection are surprisingly simple to prevent. Proper and frequent cleaning of the ears with Q-tips will prevent liquid from draining into the inner ear, inviting infection to settle in the Eustachian tube or other tissue. Preventing sinusitis is just as simple. Just as we wash our hands throughout the day to prevent bacteria and disease, we should wash out our nasal passages with nasal spray on a regular basis. This cleans out germs that enter the body through the mouth and nose. In using nasal spray, one should keep in mind that studies have shown xylitol to be a natural bacteria repellant that one should look for as the leading ingredient in nasal spray. Because it is sugar free, it also reduces the ability of bacteria to leave behind damaging acids. The more interesting an article, the more takers there are for the article. So we have made it a point to make this article on Sinusitis Ear as interesting as possible! :)

After two painful sinus operations, I was still coming down with infections. I had to find some real remedy to my sinusitis problem, as I was tired of taking antibiotics and especially tired of the dull, deep headaches every time I had an attack.

This is the easiest way to start, as you have everything needed. If the system works well and you want to continue to do nasal irrigation on a daily basis, I would suggest purchase of a pack of one dozen saline solution boxes, as the price is lower per box and there is only one shipping charge to pay. Of course one could still purchase a WaterPik at a retail store and buy the Dr. Grossan's adaptor and saline solution to work with it. For information about how to purchase these items, and also how to download a free ebook written by Dr. Grossan, follow the links at the end of this article.

Use a Waterpik and Adaptor

When I first started following Dr. Grossan's advice he suggested using a WaterPik machine, and these have been sold for years as devices to improve gum and dental health. Dr. Grossan simply sold an adaptor and a saline solution, although one can use table salt. Although much more expensive than salt, I find that this saline solution is convenient, works well, and has no preservatives. I usually purchase a dozen containers at a time, and these will last up to a year with one application per day. One simply puts a spoonful of saline solution into the WaterPik tank and then about 16 oz. of warm water to dissolve the powder. Then the nasal adaptor is put into one nostril and the machine will gently propel half the liquid through one's nasal canal, and it will drain out the other side. One then puts the adaptor in the other nostril and repeats the procedure on that side. This procedure is done while leaning over a sink. I then normally put more water into the tank and use the WaterPik on my teeth as it was originally intended, and I've helped my gum and dental health as well. My dental hygienist has made several comments about how much better my gums and teeth are when I go in for cleanings. The whole effort only takes about 5 minutes or so, including wiping everything dry. I normally do the irrigation once a day about an hour before bed, but if I happen to wake up with more than the usual congestion in the morning, I'll do it then as well. ;)

Tried Various Approaches for Years

Throughout my years with significant sinus problems, I had read a number of books and tried different products and approaches. One author I read early-on was not very encouraging. He said that certain things aggravated sinus problems, and one should simply stop eating chocolate, cheese and other dairy products. Also, he said that in order to be cured there could simply be no drinking of alcoholic beverages either. Sorry, he said, but that's the way it has to be. For a person who lived in France and who has come to enjoy the excellent wine and numerous cheese varieties, this was awful. What kind of a life would I have without drinking wine and eating cheese? At that point I did have to stop drinking, as even one glass of wine could be enough to trigger an infection almost every time. After six months of this I got sick of drinking soda and non-alcoholic beer, which tastes pretty bad. In fact I was ridiculed in a restaurant in France when I ordered a Buckler's , which is Heineken's nonalcoholic beer. The French owner asked my why I would order such a ridiculous beverage with his excellent meal, and I explained I had sinus problems. He replied that he bad sinus problems too, and he got headaches every day, but nothing would stop him from drinking red wine! I actually admired his attitude, but the headaches were too painful, and I felt like I was on the search for "Lorenzo's oil", like the father in the movie of the same title that needed a certain rare oil to cure his son. It was also through this author, an ENT specialist, that I first heard about nasal irrigation, but the system suggested did not work well. He sold a saline solution, but it was too strong and caused a burning sensation in my nose. He suggested a sort of long-nosed pot called a Neti pot to use to pour the solution into each nostril. This approach did not work nearly as well as the system suggested by Dr. Grossan (see below), and I was wrongly convinced that nasal irrigation was not effective. It makes a big difference how the irrigation is done and with what kind of equipment and saline solution. :o.

Other Medications

For many people the nasal irrigation system will be enough to control your sinus problems. Those of us with particularly significant sinusitis may need to supplement this with medications, and I use Flonase before going to bed each night as well. If I feel like I'm on the verge of a sinus infection I might take some zyrtec (an antihistimine) or if an infection seems imminent, I have my silver bullet, which is prednisone. I don't use much of the latter, however, as there can be side affects with this steroid. My doctor usually prescribes 10 pills of 20 mg each, and these last for about a year. I never take a whole pill and usually take 5 mg or 10 mg maximum at a time for a day or two. I'm told this is a reasonable amount and nothing to worry about. Speaking of bad side effects, prior to discovering Dr. Grossan's system, sometimes desperate for relief, I used an over-the-counter spray called afrin. The warnings on the label say to use this product for only 4 days or less. This medication can damage the cilia in one's sinuses and cause permanent damage if used too much. As frequent users know, there is also an effect called rebound congestion, so after using it you might end up just as congested as when you started. Thus, people are tempted to continue using it, and it is said to become addictive. Dr. Grossan simply recommends that you throw your afrin into the garbage and stay away from it. I have not used it for years now and am glad to be rid of it. Inspiration can be considered to be one of the key ingredients to writing. Best of Luck to All Sinusitis Sufferers

Sinus Operations- Try to Avoid

The operations were no fun. After the first one my nose was "packed". This means that in order to stop the bleeding, the ENT specialist/surgeon put a large amount of gauze in my nose, which means that one can only breathe through the mouth for the week or so of recovery time. In other words, swallowing and breathing cannot occur at the same time. This is a good way to lose weight, as one cannot eat much, but it is not a great way to live. At the end of this period, before pulling out the gauze, the doctor said "this will feel like I'm pulling your brains out through your nose". This was the most accurate statement he ever made to me. Pulling what seemed like 6 feet of moist, sticky gauze out of my nose was an almost surrealistically painful sensation. But I thought, "if my deviated septum is now fixed, at least I can look forward to no sinus infections in the future, or at least a lot fewer of them. I was wrong again, as they started coming back after a few months. I changed ENT specialists since the first one put me through tons of pain for no gain. After a couple of years of treatment with this new doctor, I decided to take his advice and try another operation. Among other therapies, I had allergy shots during that time, even though I only tested positive for minor allergies to a couple of things. My nose was not "packed" this time, but there was still plenty of pain. Again my hopes for an infection-free future were dashed when they started up again after a few months. So after two operations by two different ENT specialists, I said "enough is enough". For those considering sinus operations to fix things like a deviated septum, here's my considered advice: don't do it. At least try the nasal irrigation recommended by Dr. Murray Grossan which is explained below before you do. One hears about people who have had 5 or 6 sinus operations, and these either don't work, or if they do cause improvement, it doesn't last very long. Some people have told me that a sinus operation "fixed" their problems, but I am skeptical. We have omitted irrelevant information from this composition on Sinusitis Cure as we though that unnecessary information may make the reader bored of reading the composition.

Haven't eliminated sinus infections entirely, and I might come down with perhaps one per year. I'm more susceptible when very tired, or after long flights, as we often go back and forth to Europe for our tour business. When flying anywhere I make sure to take some kind of decongestant, normally the Flonase. I can enjoy wine, cheese, chocolate, and I really don't need to avoid any particular foods. Dr. Grossan's system has worked for me, and I certainly don't miss the deep, painful sinus infection headaches that used to be all too familiar. Dr. Grossan has lots of other advice in his book as well, and I definitely recommend that anyone with sinusitis read it. We take pride in saying that this article on Nasal Irrigation is like a jewel of our articles. This article has been accepted by the general public as a most informative article on Nasal Irrigation. :)

The Easiest Way to Start

In the past couple of years Dr. Grossan has come up with his own machine for nasal irrigation. It is called the Hydro Pulse Nasal Irrigation System. For about $89 plus shipping one receives the Hydro Pulse Nasal/Sinus Irrigator, 2 Original Sinus Irrigator Tips , 2 Original Throat Irrigator Tips, Breathe-ease XL Nasal Moisturizer (this is the saline solution), and excerpts from,"The Sinus Cure" by Dr. Grossan.
